as well as complaints by pro life groups.

Executive Director of the Irish Council for Civil Liberties Mark Kelly has said the mural’s red heart on a blue background has now become an iconic image for the pro choice movement.

“I think what the artist was doing was reaching out to people with a very approachable image and actually you can see in the meantime it has caught on,” said Kelly.

“This art is now appearing on t shirts, caps, donuts and all over the place. People have seized on it as being emblematic of a fresh approach to the question.”
